We had a 4 unit coal fired power plant in Lawrenceburg, IN which is now a 2 unit power plant. Two yrs ago the EPA regs required the stack emissions be cleaner, but company officials said new scrubbers technology would cost too much,so 2 coal burn units were closed. 100 were jobs lost in process here and probably several coal miners lost their job elsewhere back east. Prevailing wind sends emissions from plant stacks to northeast states along with acid rain. They have influence over EPA thru their politicians. We're told to expect much higher electric rates in near future since less coal generated electric is available. This happened all over the U.S. So we all breathe easier now until we open the electric bill.
