Hey Dan, what is to think about, dark colors show imperfections more than lighter ones. That holds true for dirt dust or acid rain spots. I was running a body and paint shop in Leesburg from 86 to 90 and we repainted a lot of new cars, and if the factory paint was BAD as you say, why was it only where the rain drops sat (think hood roof etc.) that had the spots. One woman customer worked for Regan and she went off yelling that there is NO such thing as acid rain when I told her what the spots were from. If it was bad paint jobs from Detroit they could have saved a lot of money fixing it up there instead of paying us and every other shop we knew of that was doing the same repaint jobs.
