I had posted about a Sthil 038AV chainsaw that I had found in a fence-row that I had forgotten about. It sat for 12 to 13 years out in the weather.
Chain and bar were no good, obiuvisouly. Rings were seized, piston locked. I freed the piston and took apart the cylinder assembly. Cylinder was pitted (8 pits). Local Sthil dealer wanted $24.900 for each piston ring times 2 rings.= $48.00
Points were shot. Bought new points. It takes a special tool NLA from Sthil to set points since they are inside the flywheel. I wound up buying another flywheel to cut it down to be able to make the NLA tool to set my points..
I bought new cylinder kit and carb for less than $100.00. Upgrade from 48mm to 52mm which made it a 038 magnum. Bolted everything up and flushed the gas tank, after a few modifications had the chainsaw running. Adjusted carb and all is good.
Get new bar and chain in the morning and I will have a "like new" chainsaw.
Not too bad for a Sthil I had forgotten about and it sat out in the weather extremes for 12 to 13 years!
Greg PS- Tried to post pic of saw but camera cable is wore out and not making a connection...Maybe later.

It would be a great day for the collies and the terrier dogs, rats and mice would be at the bottom of the stacks so the dogs, would have a busy time hunting and killing, all the corn was gathered and ricked in what we c
