About 8 or 10 years ago I went to look at a bathroom remodel. I met my plumbing contractor at the location. The home owner had instructed us to enter the enclosed porch without knocking, then ring the door bell by the front door. The enclosed front porch was filled with garbage bags and it smelled like urine.
The owner's daughter answered the door. She said to follow her. We proceeded through the living room. There was a 2' wide path. There were clothes piled at least 6' high on either side of the path. The next room was probably originally a dining room but they were using it as a tv room. The path widened out to about 6'. There was a couch and TV. The rest of the room was piled at least 6' high with clothes. The path narrowed back to 2' as we got to the kitchen. The kitchen actually wasn't too bad. Off the kitchen was a small hallway. The bathroom was off the hall. There was a 6' long vanity. It was loaded with every kind of can, bottle, or tube you can imagine might be in a bathroom. You know what coins look like that have been brought up from ancient ship wrecks? Well there were coins on the vanity top. They were all corroded together. By this time I was thinking I don't want the job but the plumber was gung ho to do it. Among other things, the owner wanted a whirlpool tub. I wanted to look at the breaker panel to see if there was capacity to add a circuit for the tub. The girl said the panel was in the basement. I went down to the basement. Every wire, or pipe had clothes hanging from them. All dresses and long coats. The floor was littered with dog feces. They had 5 dogs and didn't like letting them go outside in the winter! I couldn't find the breaker panel. Went outside and found the meter location. Back to the basement....no panel. Back outside to measure from the corner of the house to the meter. Went back downstairs and measured. Came up with the same location as before....a shower. I opened the shower curtain and right there on the back wall of the shower was the breaker panel!!!! I STRONGLY suggested they remedy that situation and refused to bid on the job.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
