What I find interesting about the whole GMO discussion is that everything living on this planet is basically a GMO. It's called evolution, survival of the fittest. Engineering crops genetically is just speeding up or tailoring mutation. Don't farmers do this by cross-breeding cattle for certain traits? What about grafting of plants? Isn't that the same thing? I imagine that a GMO "could" be engineered to be harmful to humans but highly unlikely that a company would shoot for that objective. Like others have said, modern agriculture (especially US agriculture) has allowed feeding ourselves to be very low on the list of problems we face every day. Hungry? Go to a supermarket and look at the choices you have to obtain the "fuel" to run your body. My wife spends around 6% of our net income weekly to feed us. And we eat pretty well. I believe this is attributable to both the mechanization of agriculture and the biology/botany of it. I'm surprised the OP isn't also complaining of the harm that diesel exhaust from all the tractors and combines is causing. :D

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
