I posted some data yesterday from my father-in-law's old Ford factory spec books. He's a retired Ford engineer and started with Ford in the 50s. I mentioned the 534 gas engine that was used in some Ford heavy tractor-trucks. Some comments were made about the gas engines not having much power. I worked for a moving company that had two 1965 Ford tractor-trucks. One gas and the other diesel. The gas version we had was a lot more powerful then the diesel. I just got looking at the optional engines and I see now there were two diesel options. We had the 534 cubin inch gas engine and the 588 cubic inch diesel. Like I said, that 534 gas was a lot more gutsy then that 588 diesel. There was however, an optionan 743 cubic inch diesel which I've never driven. That one does have more snot.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
