But once you cool down from your knee-jerk diatribe, think back to the point of the original post, which was a comparison of health care costs between 1960 and today. Back in the fifties and sixties, hospitals tended to be operated as community services, charging just enough to recoup their costs. Today, although most major hospitals operate as not-for-profit corporations, they all behave very much like for-profit companies as they attempt to extract as much revenue as possible from their customers.
