Agree 100%. Plus, if a doctor doesn't order every test he can imagine on you, a lawyer will grill him on the stand if you die: "Why didn't you order test X on Mr. Doe?" If there is not a good outcome, the family will run first to a lawyer and THEN to the funeral home. And the patient will sue even if they survive.
My brother is a Risk Management Claims Manager at a major hospital. He gets at least ONE new outrageous case filed every day now. People looking to hit the lawsuit lotto. They have tens of millions PER YEAR set aside for malpractice lawsuits against this one hospital. And it's actually gotten better because our state instituted caps on tort lawsuits. Now figure in all the malpractice suits against doctors individually. Add in all the millions that the drug companies have to set aside for liability in lawsuits. As others have said, add in the cost for the fancy MRI, CAT machines, etc. You get the picture.
