I have just been talking to my 'David Brown' friend and apparently the 850 and 950 are difficult to tell apart without decals unless you can find out the serial number / model number of the engine. The 850 had a 4 cylinder 154 cubic inch engine whereas the 950 had a 165 cubic inch engine.
