are you talking about budd style rims that use a flanged nut? Its my understanding that you use a chamfered nut on the chamfered holes to center the rim on the axle as the lug bolts don"t actually touch the rim. Then remove them and after the rim is centered and 4 flanged nuts have been tightened down on the other 4 holes. the reason for the 4 facing one way and the other 4 facing the other way is one way works for the inner duel and the other works for the outer. I could be wrong but that"s the way I was told. Bill
