Just returned from a family trip the St Louis. Went by way of Nashville, North across KY from there. The first serious farming seen was close to the TN-KY line, saw someone running a planter near Ft. Campbell. Thought at first he was no tilling but probably was regular planter in field that had been tilled smooth, then got rain on it before planting. This was Monday. Other farmers from there up across IL were doing some planting and also spraying small grain, which looked very good. Probably some fertilizer application also, it's had to look closely when driving by at highway speeds.
Today, Wednesday, We returned by way of I 64 to Louisville, KY, then south across KY, Tn to Knoxville, then to Ashville, NC, on to SC. 1400 mile round trip.
Across Southern IL and IN, farmers were doing more planting, fertilizing and some discing. Some areas a little wet. No rain on us for the trip, except a shower in St. Louis Monday night.
Temperatures in SC and St. Louis about the same, low 70s. Didn't get time to do any machinery shopping!
