Redforlife has the big thing- sweaty collars make good horses and Joe Average Englishman doesn't use his horses hardly at all. I'm in the same boat. Got horses that need training, but time is the enemy. I knew one Amish guy I'd trust with my horses, he was a HORSEMAN and that's the difference, but he's gone. Amish are just like anyone else, some of us are real good mechanics and others just patch it up and duct tape it enough to get by. Some Amish are real fine horsemen and lots of others are just barely able to keep them going down the road. If I knew a Amish guy I trusted with my horses I might have him use them for a couple months, but in the end YOU have to get them out there and work them or you end up with expensive pasture ornaments.
It's catch 22 thing- If the horses were broke good I'd be using them for a lot more stuff every day, but until the horses are broke I have to use tractors which leaves me no time to train the horses! Every gallon of gas or diesel is lost money.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
