You could then run off the clean side of filter base and use the orfice fitting instead of tearing engine back apart. I will look in service manual later and check this out a little farther.
Just run it a little and see if any oil is coming through to that elbow in head.
I couldn't remember either so I got out the book to look it up.
Early engines fed from the oil cooler rear header were the ones that had the oil metered by the camshaft. They use the standard fitting with no orifice. Later engines that were fed from a block oil galley need the orifice type fitting.
