My 1938 IHC F-14 fired and ran today for the first time since who knows. And, wonder of wonders, it started from the HAND CRANK! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done it myself. Showed good oil pressure, too. Now for the "Sort Of" part...there are some fairly serious problems that will need to be solved before I can truly say it's running. Anyone with suggestions for any or all of the problems listed below, jump right in! 1. It will only start with the spark at full advance. I'm thinking I've got the mag off a tooth or two. 2. It runs quite fast, almost what I'd expect at full throttle. Nothing I can do with the external linkage or idle speed screw will slow it down. I'm thinking interal governor linkage adjustments, or something binding. 3. It only runs at full choke. I had the carb rebuilt by Clyde Berkshire at Berkshire Implement, so I'm assuming that it's okay mechanically. There appear to be two adjustments (which, in my experience is typical) Idle mixture and run mixture. My knowledge of carbs is really limited, so I'm especially interested in suggestions on this one. 4. The fuel pump rocks on it's mountings, almost like the stroke on the pump rod is too long. I know I replaced the drive rod with the same part that came out, the pump and the cam are the same as well. Two possiblities occur to me here...Either I reassembled something wrong in the pump, or there's supposed to be a spacer between the pump and the block. I don't remember taking one out, but then with CRS... All in all, a darn fine day. As I said, suggestions welcome. For John The Red Fritz: Pix coming, it's too dark on that side of the garage this afternoon, I'll whip a couple out in the morning.
