: Anyone have any experience with mounting backhoes on the newer compact diesels? I have a New Holland 1520 4wd with Hydro transmission that I would like to get a backhoe for. Rated at 23 hp, I think it is large enough to handle a small hoe, at least New Holland makes one for it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Fritz: I have a Woods 650 backhoe for my John Deere 750 compact utility (20hp) I've had it about 6 years now, and have done an incredible amount of work with it. I picked a Woods over the John Deere for two main reasons: It is completely self-contained, with it's own pump and reservior. This does two things: It reacts faster and it doesn't heat up the transmission oil, which can cause condensation. The other reason is that it goes on and off quickly...three pins, just like any other 3 point hitch implement. Other than a blown hose here and there, I've never had a major failure. The 650 has a 6.5 foot depth.
