I asked that same question a few weeks ago. I was told if you cover a few, They will poke on through. I usually just hill up on the plant a few inches each of the 2 or 3 times I hill them. Course I have only been growing them 40 + years. I am still learning. Richard

I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
