: I just bought a 574 and decided to change all the fluids and filters when I inspected the hydrl. : fluid I found some gray metal particles in the : filter and oil they were about the same size : as BB's and round to oval do i need to look into : this or do i wait till something shows up i only : use it to rake hay with less than 50 hours a year. Please Help!!! Have you been keeping up on changing the Hytran? A tractor with only 50 hours a year has more trouble with moisture than a busy tractor. How many particles of BB size? Could this gray metal be cast material? I believe this could be material which was never fully cleaned out of the cast frame of the transmission. Also extra moisture can sometimes loosen inside primer paint and these types of materials which may have been attached for years. The 574 origionally had a rubber foam type seal which was wedged behind the hydraulic pump mounted to the MCV (multiple control valve). This held the oil level up for part of the transmission, but I've often seen the moisture destroy this seal and break it up into small pieces. It would plug up the hyd. filter. The destroyed seal will drop oil level down enough to let the hyd pump drive shaft seal get hot and ruined. Over years I've always removed the odd foam type seal and added 2 gal. of Hytran above the normal full mark on the dipstick, and then remark the dipstick to the higher level. Milan
