Ian: I have a 25 year old Nicopress crimper (USA) that has crimped a lot of sleeves. I usually do two sleeves per splice on a 12.5 gauge high tensile wire and I don"t think I have ever had a splice fail. I realize the biggest animal that tries to go thru our fences here in southern Illinois is whitetail deer. Also I use springs on all my wires. (As I understand, you can get by without springs if you have long runs of high tensile wire). I do know there are a lot of differences in the hardness/quality of the sleeves. I normally use the C23 sleeves from Kencove Farm Fence in Blairsville, PA. which are rated at 900 lb. hold. I ordered a batch of sleeves online from a non-fence outfit once which were good quality but HARD to crimp....would really make you grunt! Was real glad when I used them all up. Just make sure you have chosen the correct sleeve before you buy a bunch! Good Luck! gwece
