The adjustment sounds good. How did this happen? Was it running and got this way or has it been sitting for a month or more? Can you get it in gear at all, as in the release is dragging, or is it not releasing at all?
If it's been sitting, and the clutch will not release at all, it may be rusted to the flywheel or pressure plate. Sometimes you can shock it loose by push starting it, driving with the pedal pushed down, goosing the throttle, slamming the brake, anything to shock load the drive train, just be careful. Or if there is an inspection cover, or working through the starter hole, you can block the pedal down and reach in the gaps around the pressure plate with a knife blade and pop it loose. Don't use penetrating oil!
If it got this way while running, if it's dragging, if the pedal feels different, or if the pedal is bouncing up and down, there is a problem with the pressure plate. As something is broken and it's not fully releasing. If that's the case, it will have to be replaced.
