: Would someone please explain what the purpose of the middlebuster is . Thanks, John John, The middle buster was used to initially set up the rows. They were commonly made in 1 row, 3 row, 5 row, and some 7 row models. On a five row middle buster four of the busters were mounted on the front of the tractor and a single buster was on the rear. Three row would have two on front and one rear and a seven row would have six on front and one rear. Some later middle busters were three point hitch toolbar mounted with from three to seven busters on the same tool bar. On each pass only half of the outside row on each side would be set up and the other half of the outside row would be set up on the next pass. The middle buster was mostly replaced by the hipping disk, hipping ridger, or hipper (all the same depending on what you call it in different parts of the country) Harold H.
