lakemac45, don't be so hard on yourself, you're not an idiot, you're just ignorant! Now, before you feel insulted, ignorance is merely a lack of knowledge. The fact that you asked advice shows that you're no idiot. That being said, your problem may be compound, since, as a tractor ages, the electrical system components deteriorate, (unless you are one of those rare people who stay on top of all needed repairs), So you could have some weak spark as a result. Most ignition problems result in a go/no-go situation, except for a bad coil which can fail and once it has cooled down will run until it gets hot again, then shut down again. If it starts right back each time it dies, then it sounds like a fuel problem. Since you have already been into the carburetor, I would, as Walt suggested, drain the float bowl into a container, let it run about a pint of gas and let it settle. Any trash or water should be apparent. The flooding condition maybe caused by improper float adjustment, or the needle simply not seating as it should. Just a few thoughts.
