The early Ford 401 was known for cylinder wall perforation due to cavitation. Test coolant for SCAs. if it has been treated it should be good. HP is easily adjusted on the Simms pump, just turn an external screw out for heavy work and back in for economy. The 9700s are kind of like dual purpose, power when you need it but the economy of a smaller tractor. Don't worry about what you have for a dealer. None of them want your business if you own older stuff. they don't stock parts, so it is two trips to get anything, whereas you can buy the same part on line often for 1/3 the price, and have it in two days instead of three and no gas burned.
