The last few years I have used a 3 point tool bar that I mounted the hoppers and openers from my planter onto. I used a single drive tire in the center to control depth, and to drive the screws(built from an old White planter). It is slow, but precise.
It is supposed to rain for the next week, and I have knee high corn right now that needs fed. Thinking about using a cone spreader.
