They used to call us crazy when we told the DEC we saw a Moose in NY. Now the DEC has news releases about the Moose that have been here for 30-40 years. The DEC still says there are no Mountain Lion, even though myself and a lot of other people have seen them. They also told us for years there were no bear around here, that they were all down in the mountains. They just opened bear season in my area!
Back when I lived in the Central Adirondacks I had a group of people stop their van in the road in front of my house and get out. I wandered over and found out they were all college kids and their Professor out doing some Ruffed Grouse study. I mentioned I'd heard a lot of drumming (Grouse drum their wings against their chest to attract she birds) lately. The Professor told me that was impossible, that Grouse didn't drum that time of year. I was about to say something, probably something crude and uncalled for, when a Grouse started drumming just up the hill. Professor Knowitall got red in the face and hustled his class back into the van......
