Right now they are saying the water will reach the spillway in the next 7 to 8 days but will not go over the spillway.
They opened up the outflow tube from 6000 cubic feet per sec to 8000 yesterday. Over the next 24 hours the outflow will rise to 18,000 fps.
This will cause some minor flooding in Ia City.
So they (the Corps of Engineers) hope to stay in a controlled flood instead of the water breaching the overflow spillway and loose all control like happen in 2008 and 1993.
Another 2 to 5 inch rain fall event, in the next week or 2, in the Iowa river watershed and they will be in a out of control flood.
