kevinecwi,
We bought it in 108" lengths, we cut, split, stack ours. When we first started buying it the cost was $25.00 per cord. Last few years, price has went up from $50. to $65 to 80 now to 95 per cord in 108 inch long lengths. I can see some increase due to fuel costs for him,but to let the "mill" determine the cost of his price, is wrong.
Pizzy poplar doesn't keep us warm, after it's dry, it goes up the chimney like burning toilet paper, and it stinks up the house anyway. Before we bought wood from timber loggers, we used to make up our own from the county forest, but as years went by,we decided to buy it,now it's almost cost prohibited as we can run our equipment and get a permit from the county for $10.00 and cut up dead, down and leaning trees up to 15 cord per year. We're right by the county forest so hauling it won't be extra cost, just fuel for vehicle and dozer, no plates or insurance will be required as the road is private drive. So we will probably go that route for a few years, until price goes back down,if it does. SIL bought a few loggers cord last year,as he ran out, for 75 per cord, cut 24" and delivered to his house for $75.00 per cord. That guy ran out of wood quickly, and to me if he had it I would bought it at that price. There is always coal and oil, I won't go gas,as that is too cold to try and keep warm by in our location. Might try lumber company like Menard's and price out some boards to burn like 2X4X8 in cord quantity to burn.lol.
Thanks for the reply,
LOU

PS since today is my Birthday, it wasn't the kind of present I was hoping to get by getting our wood cost from our logger.lol.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing. ... [Read Article]
