Irregular logic, Wasn't the chimney, as soon as we stopped the pine, and went with hardwoods,no creosote. Ours was a class a chimney, flue block with clay liners straight shot up the flue. Now in our newer house still block and flue liners no creosote, burn hardwood, and use creosote destroyer, clean chimney once a month during heating season and nothing but fine ash. Daughter has metal bestos, stainless steel chimney, burns hardwood and creosote destroyer, does the same thing as us no fires, just ash. We've been burning wood since the late 60's so we are not un accustomed to burning wood or making up wood, unlike some people who have just started by thinking it's simple as gas or any other type of heating. To each their own, I myself like staying warm inside the house in the winter when outside temps are - 30 and inside is 78-80 degrees, I don't like bundling up with coats inside the house to stay warm.
