jennifer408, Your right prices are way too high. By us they are using machines to cut down, limb, and stack log length wood.Machinery is older models,so the days of using chainsaws in the woods around us is over, unless it's a new logger just starting out. We started cutting our own wood back in the late 60's in the woods, with just me, my wife and kids. Putting it into our ton and a half truck, hauling it home, splitting and stacking it. We used to make up 12-15 cord per year for ourselves. That measurement was 4 foot high 4 foot wide and 8 feet long is 1 cord. Later when the family moved into each different houses we made up 30 cord of wood by hand (10 cord each) for a few years. Then we bought it after that.We used to burn wood when it was the only way to keep the cost down and stay warm. Now days, with newer folks trying it and going to outside wood boilers, their wood consumption increased astronomically, over 15 cord for over 2000 sq ft home, when our is under 1800 sq ft and burn around 10 cord per year. It's just the loggers are seeing they can charge more and figure people don't have any other way to get the wood,so it's easy pickings. There are always people who will try to take advantage of others one way or another, just when it comes to us were different self sufficient, and help others when we can. Regards, LOU
