I was just reading some reports about the storm and NC's Outer Banks, or OBX as it has become known. North Carolina's barrier islands stretch for approximately 200 miles, with approximately 148 miles connected by NC highway 12, and several ferries. Hwy. 12 did suffer some damage, but said that crews were already en route to begin repairs. And I am sure that there will be several TRACTORS involved. The report said that there are about 57,000 permanent residents living on the outer banks, and about 250,000 visitors on an average summer weekend. If you notice on a map, North Carolinas land mass extends farther into the ocean than any other on the coast. This is one reason they get pounded so often by storms. Just thought I would throw this out for those who live in inland states and may have never seen the OBX.
