If you want a tight bale, stay away from a chain or drum type baler. The later Gehls will bale as tight a bale as you'll ever find. The ones with the cylinders to keep the belts tight, not springs. I'd go newer than the 50 series. They used a roller in the bottom, not a table belt like the 00 and 50 series used. Prices on those are tanking because they don't make them anymore, but so far I haven't found parts availability to be a problem. Bearings, chains, that kind of thing are just generic, available at an auto parts store or farm supply. I guess it would depend on how many bales you'll use it for and how it will be housed. If you're not going to wear it out, want a good baler that packs super tight, they're worth looking at. I'm on my 4th one since 1979.
