We got our "hot lunches" from the public school system somehow. They got carted in in big insulated boxes every day. And the lunches themselves were individually separated in small Styrofoam trays.
Milk came in the little glass bottles with the paper top. I think they were 10 cents.
First - fourth grades ate first, (in the church hall - below the church) then fifth through eighth.
There was a girl's side of tables, and a boy's side - with a wide gap between the two.
after lunch we'd go out to recess behind the school - and again, there was a boys side and a girls side - with an 8' tall chain link fence between the two.
When recess was over, we all lined up and went into the school through either the doors marked "boys" or the door marked "girls" (in French of course)

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
