There may be a lot of land in China, but they got the shaft as far as land quality goes. Most of it is pretty rugged, mountainous terrain as I recall.

Economic forces brought about a happy medium with Japan, and the same will happen with China too. That economic force will be consumer demand in China itself. It's already happening. You can't keep a billion people as slave labor no matter how big your army is, so the only way to prevent a violent uprising is to keep paying the workers more and more. As they get more money, they buy more stuff, creating more demand for more higher-quality goods and services.
It's happening right now. It's getting to the point where for some companies, it's starting to make sense to bring manufacturing back to the USA.
