: J.C. Whitney of Chicago sells 6 Volt alternators of the GM 10 si type. But the two I have gotten from them did not work. My 8N came with a 12V conversion /alternator. I wanted to convert it back to 6V pos. gnd since the points seemed to burn with the 12V neg. gnd system. I took the diode block from the GM alternator and reversed its polarity (you cut a little metal on the diode block and mount it backwards). I then made a new pulley for the 5/8 inch belt on my 8N, an improved mounting bracket, etc. Unfortunately, I then broke the front alternator housing while installing the new pulley. At this point I found a used 8N generator and put the tractor electrical system all back as original. If anyone wants a pos. gnd GM alternator with a 5/8 inch pulley and no front housing have I got a deal for you.....
