After checking the oil level the first step I'd take is to do a pressure/FLOW test on the charge pump. You want to make sure that the charge pump delivers specified pressure at rated flow... if it doesn't then you can start by looking at the suction strainers/filters and advancing into bigger issues like cracked or broken lines in the transmission. If it does make specified flow then you need to pressure/flow test the main pump in isolation of the remainder of the system to see if it's up to spec... and if it isn't... deal with that. If is... then go hunting for the high pressure leak in the back end. Those tractors were WELL KNOWN for developing high pressure leaks and that both deprives you of available flow and generates a massive amount of heat. Given what you describe... that it gets so hot it goes to chattering and not working in half an hour... I would say you have a fairly substantial high pressure leak.
