Dirt said: (quoted from post at 20:31:12 07/15/14) Cub cadet mower Briggs & Stratton engine replaced primer balb and spark plug, now it will start if I prime it 5 times. Runs for a few sec then dies unless I keep pumping primer balb. Once engine is warmed up it will run fine. I took apart and cleaned the carb best I could. Anyone have ideas. I think it needs a new carb. I don't understand why it's not getting gas until it warms up. I don't know the engine model it's not stamped on the cover. there is a steady stream of gas from the gas tank. I posted on the Garden tractor site as well
Here's my routine for starting one that has sat too long with ethanol-laced 'gas' in the tank - 1-Dump the tank, 2- refill w/fresh 'gas' (ethanol-free is preferred), 3-replace spark plug w/NEW one, 4- add 1/2 can of 'START' (available at TSC, AutoZone, etc.), 4-work primer bulb 3 or 4 times, 5- try to start. If it hits but doesn't start and run try to keep it running w/primer. If still 'no-go' let it sit for 24 hrs. (allows the 'START' to work) and try again. If it's still a 'no-go' THEN remove the recoil starter and spin the crankshaft with a 1/2" drill-motor fitted with an adapter and appropriate socket. This has worked over a 1/2 dozen times for me :) In your case I think that the addition of the 'START' will clean her up and let her keep running if you start and work the primer as you describe. I assume that you have checked the gasket as 'JD Seller' advised. Good luck to you!

Today's Featured Article - When Push Comes to Shove - by Dave Patterson. When I was a “kid” (still am to a deree) about two I guess, my parents couldn’t find me one day. They were horrified (we lived by the railroad), my mother thought the worst: "He’s been run over by a train, he’s gone forever!" Where did they find me? Perched up on the seat of the tractor. I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
