Bret, how? A Mech or Armor division is about 28,000 people. To close a front each Division's front is supposed to be 10 miles. The Mexican border is 1951 miles. Divided by 10 that's 195 divisions. Now you would have to have one BDE in reserve to allow guys time to take leave and such. But you could say stretch it out to 20 miles and cut that in half. Or even 40 miles and make it one quarter. You are still very close to 50 divisions at 28,000 per division. Over 65% are support, cooks, clerks, medics, mechanics and such, people who will not be on the line. We have 10 active divisions now. So you would need the 50 for the southern border plus the 10 for national security and other commitments. Right now with 10 divisions the Army is over 400,000 people. One division is Airborne and they are smaller by about half over the Mech/Armor divisions. So 50 new divisions at 28,000 each would be 1.4 million troops. Then you need barracks and family housing, mess and medical facilities, motor pools and a whole infrastructure. We can't afford it.
