I've never had the dual power version of the 8x8 apart... but on a straight 8x8 transmission you start at the top with the input housing, then the front cover, then I think move to the back and pull the PTO shaft out... then you can probably get the front housing off. Honestly... if you do not have the Ford service manual for that thing you're in WAY over your head right now. There's a series of preload specs and rolling resistances that need to be set just about bang on or it's not going to shift correctly.. I've had mine apart twice for syncro repairs. It's not much fun... and can easily take 20 hours to tear that thing down and rebuild it.
