'fraid that one totally misses the point. They would have you believe that businesses will surreptitously get your personal information, then force you to buy stuff you don't want to buy at prices you don't want to pay.
The truth is quite the opposite: we gladly hand over our personal information for a variety of reasons: discounts, prizes, free delivery, casino buffets, etc. Businesses take the information they get from us for almost nothing and marry it with other information for which they pay (e.g. credit reports). They then use everything they know about us to sell us stuff that we are already inclined to buy.
It may come as a surprise that businesses are out to make money. P***ing off your customers is seldom a good business plan. But hanging a carrot out in front of your customers' noses is just smart business.
