Checking custom rate guides 500 dollars looks right for a large capacity harvester plus two trucks with drivers. Most guys are running near to new machines which requires the charge be adequate relative to the investment. I would comment that at 500 dollars per hour the operators are allowing for road time plus hazards such as blown tires. I am guessing if I needed such services that the operator would have to come several miles minimum as there is nobody in this neighborhood with cows to justifiy owning such equipment. If he chose to own he could go two routes. Usable harvesters can be found at 500 dollars for a cut and throw with 2 row head. I did see a low use JD 35 with 2 row head sell this spring for around that kind of money. I've seen ugly but very usable boxes (Gehl 940) for a few hundred dollars. The other option is to buy a very good condition NH 790 w/ head and a couple of very good JD 716A's all at 4000 dollars per unit. The prices seem stable enough that if he chose to sell them he should be able to recoup the full investment unless damaged while under his ownership once he was done late in the year or early next year.
