Too many people only socialize thru forums and other "social media"...an oxymoron if ever I heard one. When I bought my place, it came from an estate and two of the beneficiaries live across the street. Elderly men who, in spite of being warmly treated by myself and every member of my family, have gone on some shameful rants about how they opposed the sale and wished the estate (which was open for many years because of these two) had never sold the property. They have insulted us and we have even had vandalism and theft. Just a horrible pair of SOB's and yet, I still wave and smile as I go by. It could have been so much different.
When new people move in near you. Go over and welcome them to the neighborhood. Tell them if they need something, to just ask. Most of the time they won't bother you again but you will have a good foundation should the day come, and it likely will, that you need something from THEM.
