How does the belt groove look? Is the belt hitting the bottom of the groove? If the bottom of the groove is polished shiny bright, the belt is riding too deep and is probably slipping. Caused by the wrong width belt or the pulley is worn out. Might double check to see if it's the right belt width.
If that doesn't appear to be the problem, might remove the pulley, look it over for evidence of metal to metal contact with the cover, dry seal, anything that looks abby-normal.
But then how hot is too hot? Could be nothing, but just for peace of mind...
