My sons and I all take turns running the balers. 90% of the corn stalks are shredded and rakes into large windrows. In good straight running in corn stalks we have averaged a bale a minute. That is a full 72 inch bale too. The corn stalk bales usually weight 800-1000 lbs.
It is not uncommon to run 500-600 bales of stalks in a days running. 1000 bale days totaling both balers is common.
60-65% of the bales we make are custom baled. Also 60-70% of the total are cornstalk bales.
In hay you are lucky to make a bale every 2-3 minutes. In good straight alfalfa those bales will weight 1800-2000 lbs. with dry hay. In mixed grass hay they will weight 2000-2200. The alfalfa does not pack as tight as the grass mixed hay.
Usually in cornstalks the customer will have them shredded and will use our rakes to make the windrow. So we just bale them.
