The bad material will extend to a larger area than what you can see. When I welded mine, I thought I had cut out all the bad, but when the rod arc-ed, it would blow away the bad material. If you are putting a scab patch over the top of the hole, you will need to be sure it covers a large enough area to get into the good metal. SDE
