This past winter was a pretty cold and snowy one. I don't know yet, but suspect that this upcoming one will be as well. I have leaves turning and falling already. Anyway, last winter's cold reminded me of the Laura Ingalls Wilder series of books that I read as a kid, especially "The Long Winter", so I went out and bought the set to give to my first niece that gets married and has children, to read to her children, hopefully. Most certainly a far different time back when, that's for sure. I picked up "The Long Winter" and started reading through it the other night. It's different than I remember, yet the same. When I die, I intend for it to be with a smile on my face from a time when a bald eagle and American flag in my nation represented something to look forward to.
