John, my point was that not all headlights have two wires internally - my AC G headlight doesn't - it has a metal strap to connect the bulb mount to the outer case. In this situation, it doesn't seem worth it to hack up the headlight (of course, a G only has one headlight, so your trick wouldn't work anyway, but I'm sure other old headlights that aren't sealed beam are like this).
