I have the best luck with my rear 7' blade, backing to screet the snow and it seldom moves any gravel.
If the snow is hard-packed, I pull it forward, so it will cut. I have very good control with the JD 630..very precise.. I added a steel plate to make my rear blade heavier, but really was not necessary.
On the JD "B" with manure loader, the blade is adjusted for only a slight cutting angle, but it is a true Dirt moving blade and is not very aggressive.
If you front blade is of the stamped (TSC?) types, I would turn it backwards if you want to not move much gravel with the front loader.. There just are times when you need the blade to cut and shear packed snow..
