That reminds me. Years back I was doing a repair for a State Police post in Illinois. Some guy was hauling something really huge from out west to out east and needed a State Police escort because whatever he was hauling hogged up both lanes of the interstate. Thinking that he was doing the right thing, he called the District Barracks closest to Iowa and set it up...he thought. What he didn't know and no one told him was that he needed to contact and setup State Police escort for every District that he passed through, not just the one that he called. So, he brought whatever it was that he was hauling from Iowa, was met at the state border by ISP of whatever district that was, they escorted him to where they broke off to be picked up by the next district, but since the trucker didn't know that he needed to contact each district, there was no one to pickup and continue the escort, so they pulled him off to a rest stop and told him that he could go no further until he called and arranged for escorts from every district that he passed throuh. That guy sat it out for I think it was the rest of the day. I remember hearing the troopers talking about it as it happened, and I didn't say anything because it wasn't my place, but I was thinking "Why didn't the first District that he called, tell him that? Why didn't they give him the numbers of all of the districts that he was going to pass through, and tell him that he needed to call all of them and get lined up with each and every one of them as well?". I kept my mouth shut.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
