: Thanks for responding Paul. : I do have voltage at the coil. I don't seem to have : spark at the plugs, but when I put the electical tester : on a plug and turn the engine over, I get a small : blip of voltage. However, when I check for spark by : grounding the plug, I see nothing. This seems odd : to me. Is it possible to have voltage, but not : enough to create spark? Would that indicate a : problem with the points? Is it possible that the 12 : volt charge could have messed up the coil? : Also, another, possibly unrelated observation, this : tractor has always had "dead battery" problems. It : never cranks too long before the battery is dead. : Now, however I can't kill the battery when I try. : This thing cranks forever without having to charge : it. I can't figure this out?? : Thanks, : Ron Ron
It sounds like he switched your battery with one that is 12 volts by the way you describe the cranking. If this is the case look to replace the following: 1.) Points 2.) condenser 3.) coil 4.) Lights 5.) Gages At this point you may just want to keep the 12volt system. Many people do just this to fix the dead battery problem you described. Ed
