Great stuff. Looks like the plow scoured pretty well- probably did a good job plowing.
Not long before Dad died at 85 about ten years ago, I took him to a horse plowing day. He always loved draft horses, had used them a lot back in the day, and bought, repaired, and sold harness as his "retirement project". I remember him plowing our garden with "Tom and Jerry" when I was about 4, in 1952.
We arrived a little late, and our vantage point wasn't all that good. Organizer of the event must have recognized him (Dad was active in the draft horse group "Hames and Tugs"). Came over and said "I think I can find you a little better spot." Dad was in a wheelchair, and I just pushed him to wherever it was we were going. He led us to the middle of the action, in front of the pink tape that everyone else was behind. He told the folks behind the tape, "Grand Marshal. He gets the good seat" He told Dad "Now don't go wheeling out to where they're plowing, unless someone needs some help, of course."
Sure enough, at one point some young guy was having trouble, and the older guy he was talking too waved over at us. I wheeled Dad out, and he told the guy "You're rigged up OK, but the horse on this side is a little shorter than the other one, so you may be a little long in [whatever strap it was] on this side. Where is it set on the other side? [guy answers] "That's what I thought. Take this side up about 3 notches, let the other side out about 2, and see how that works." Guy did the adjustments, took another turn, looked over at Dad with a big smile and a thumbs-up.
Dad had a great time as the "elder statesman", and I was so glad that the elderly weren't just ignored as being out of touch. Dad was still sharp, and really did help some of the younger folks. And they were almost reverent, to an "old guy" who had "forgot more than they'll ever know".
