We had a small tire store here called OK rubber welders. He did work like that. The tread was in a long strip and was applied with heat. The ends were tapered and overlapped on big tires, small were in a ring and slipped over the outside of the tire after the old tread was shaved off on a lathe like device. Farmers and log truck drivers used him a lot. They were not a good high speed retread. He even did big tractor tires, well big for then, I have seen 14.9x38s that were done. He retired in the mid 80's. Les Schwab tires used to do them in the 80's, I had a set of 18.4x38s done. A lot of old truck tires were made into implement tires. They shipped them to Redmond Oregon, don't know if they still do or not....James
